[GAME INFO]

"Sit up straight, Inmate! Do you slouch like that in front of your mother? Have some self-respect-- no one else is going to have it for you!"

You awaken atop a stiff, cold cot, the mattress digging uncomfortably into your back. There's a draft in the room, and it blows right through the thin pair of striped prison garb clad across your body. When you sit up, you find yourself seated in a blue-tinged jail cell, chains swaying and clinking together from the ceiling above.

Fortunately, the cell door is open! But before you can step outside, a voice-- the same one that insulted you earlier-- blares at you loudly from a speaker on the ceiling.

"Good! Now, take some time to familiarize yourself with the rules of this place! This is your new home, after all. And hey, if you're lucky, maybe your good behavior will see your sentence reduced from life to something a little more palatable!"

Welcome to the Edge of Reverie!

General Information

This is a little self-indulgent game modded by [plurk.com profile] satanyael. It's a team game, but like, the lazy man's team game with fewer events that require players/mods to be around at specific times. Pacing-wise, I'm aiming for a kind of make-your-own-fun atmosphere similar to [community profile] sidereal_rp, which means this game is going to be run 100% ECATS style!!

There will be mod mingle posts with prompts in them to encourage CR building. In addition to that, every month there will be at least one (but possibly more now that the pacing of the game has picked up!) in character games run by a mod or a game-runner to encourage more CR building and team bonding.

Initially I wanted the games to be a month-long; however, the pacing of the game has picked up significantly, and some of these events have been shortened to a few weeks or even a few days, as the in-character game itself requires. Some of these game are chill like social bingo, and others are more stressful, like war-room style death games. Participation is never required on an OOC front in any of these games, so you can play or not play as you desire!

Rules

This is an 18+ game!! You gotta be at least 18 to join. I don't think that'll be a problem but I'm just putting it out there!

This is meant to be a low-energy, casual game where we all just play with each other 'cause we're chill people who want to RP with cute teams and cute monsters. Please be kind to each other!! Please don't be assholes to each other!! And most of all, if you do have a problem, please communicate with each other and hash it out!! If you come to me with a problem with another player, I am probably just going to ask you to talk to the other person to work things out. I really. . . don't want to have to moderate player conflicts. . . so please do not make me moderate a conflict you may have with another person. If there is someone in the game you don't get along with, just avoid them! Just. Be kind. Be nice. Treat someone else how you'd want to be treated. Don't make me have to expand upon this section to add actual sanctions for moderating conflicts/breaking rules :( :( :(

Invite Policy

This game is meant to be a friends of friends of friends game. Originally I was going to be a little lax about this, but due to growing interest I'm making this policy a little more firm so I don't get overwhelmed! I'm a new mod who does not have time to mod a really big game, nor do I have the energy to deal with DWRP as a whole, so please don't be offended if I limit things a little bit for people I don't know super well. ;w;/ My policy will be, as follows:

If you are on my plurk timeline, you're fine! You have an invite and you can app no problem.
If you are not on my plurk timeline but we were in an old game together, you're also fine! If I remember you from Imeeji/CFUD/etc etc, I'm not going to say you can't app just because we lost each other on plurk. If you're not certain, you can always email me!
If you're not on my plurk and we don't know each other, but you know someone in the game, email me! It's probably fine, especially since you're a friend of my friends, but I'd at least like to say hello first.
If we don't know each other at all, pleeeeease email me. I may still say yes depending on how many players are in the game, but I may also request that someone wait a bit until I have my modding footing first and feel more comfortable opening things up to the general public. Please don't be offended!! I love making new friends, and I don't want to lock people who are interested in the game out of it forever!! But I do want to make sure I can mod before I open things up to people I don't know at all. Thank you so much for your understanding!

If you've already emailed me prior to this edit, don't worry; you're still okay to app!

Also, please send your emails to directrice.inbox@gmail.com if you are going to email me. Thank you!

Why are we here? What are we here with?

This was revealed ICly in the first introduction post, but the general gist of it is: your characters have been "possessed" by a monster of some kind! In an effort to prevent your characters from harming others, the Warden of this prison has sequestered them from the rest of the society to keep an eye on them. Inmates are separated onto different teams and pitted against each other in both friendly and not-so-friendly competition in order to prove that, despite their possession, they can be rehabilitated into "good citizens." Nobody knows what the Warden means by this, but it sounds nice???

Generally, characters do not arrive with items they had on their person back home. However, if your character has an item they need to be playable (like a wheelchair, or glasses, or something of the sort), then it will be in their cell with them when they arrive.

If you're ever not sure about whether your character would have an item upon arrival or not, just ask me and I'll give you an answer!

Spoilers characters may or may not be able to retrieve items from home at some nebulous point in the game's future.

Your character also arrives with a brand new smartphone, which you can find more information on here at the inmate registry. This phone is used to unlock your team dormitory as well as accessing the prison shop! And, of course, to talk to people on.

Monsters

As said above, the requisite for being dragged to this nameless prison is that your character has been possessed by a monster! This can be like, literally any fictional monster you want. Vampire, werewolf, selkie, fairy, etc etc. . . I don't care, go wild with your hopes and dreams! If you're ever uncertain, you can always ask me and I'll give you a yes or no if the monster you want is within the themes of the game.

The monster possession can work however the players want it to work. If a player wants the monster to be literally another speaking, sentient entity in their character's head that takes over from time to time, that's fine!! On the other hand, if a player just wants their character to be a furry and have ears and a tail but otherwise be 100% themselves, that's also fine! The level of possession can also fluctuate based on player desires. One day their character can be fully possessed, and the next they can just have ears and a tail, it's all good. You can also go for something in between these two extremes, like a character who is mostly normal but occasionally wants to bite their teammates to suck their blood. Follow your heart!

All monster possessions will come with some physical changes, though the extent of these physical changes is dependent on player choice. One werewolf can have dog ears and a tail. Another werewolf can have that plus fur all over their body and sharp teeth and golden eyes.

At this point in time, monster transformations do not impart extra powers and/or abilities that characters can use to give themselves an advantage! Examples of this would be inhuman senses (hearing, eyesight, speed, etc), fire-breathing for dragons, controlling plants for nymphs, flight for angels, etc etc. The general rule on powers is. . . if it a) can be controlled intentionally by the character, or b) can be used to give the character an advantage over others, i.e. can be used to COMMIT MURDER, then it is a power. However, quirks that are just part of a physical transformation (sharp teeth, pointed ears, producing light frost on surfaces one touches, brief intangibility) that can not be used willingly by characters to give themselves an advantage are not powers and are perfectly A-okay.

"But Al," you as, "sharp claws and teeth can be used to commit murder!!" YES I KNOW. . . I have no excuse for this one it'd just be really weird to not let werewolves have sharp teeth stares at hands.

There are ways to gain monster abilities, if you check the prison shop!

If you're not completely sure whether something is a power or not, just ask me! I'll be glad to help you work some things out.

When picking your monster, bear in mind that the monster you pick doesn't have to comply 100% with popular myth or legend! You can pick a monster type and then alter your monsters "backstory" (if you do decide to make the monster a separate entity-slash-headmonster for your character) to give you elements you wish to play with. For example, if you want your character to have amnesia, you can make up a "backstory" for your character's possession (the monster) where the monster-- no matter what type of monster it is-- has amnesia for some reason, and that amnesia leaks into your character.

Another good example is that if you want your character to be an elemental sprite, you can make up how the characteristics of that elemental sprite present themselves. Cool tattoos or weird bodily markings or pointed ears or wings or whatever, they are all very sprite-like features, so they'd count! I'm trying to give a lot of creative freedom to people when it comes to monster transformations, and as long as there is some kind of transformation (mental or physical) and the monster itself has some kind of name (sprite, vampire, werewolf, etc) then it's all perfectly fine!

And as always, if you aren't sure, just ask me! I'll help you narrow down your monster transformation options c:

This is not a monsterfucking game in that the mod-based events won't have monsterfucking prompts or things encouraging characters to get it on, but like. Please live out your monsterfucking dreams on your own terms!! I deeply, DEEPLY encourage this!!

Also, if your character is canonically a monster, that's okay! You can handle this one of two ways: a) have them lose their first monster form and have it be replaced with one from the setting (i.e. a canon vampire becoming a selkie), OR b) have them be double-monstered (the canon vampire is now a VAMPIRE SELKIE). Remember that in-game monster transformations do not convey any powers (as of yet), so there shouldn't be any power interference. I encourage players to do with this whatever makes them happiest.

Canon Powers/Abilities/Power Caps/Healing

Characters get to keep their abilities from home, but power capped to reasonable levels to prevent anything from being game breaking. THIS. . . IS ACTUALLY SUPER VAGUE, so let me take the time to clarify things a little bit!

Powers that are game-breaking and/or super powerful (i.e. cannot be avoided/dodged/stopped by another playable character of equal levels) can still exist, but will be nerfed so they can't be used to circumvent game mechanics or auto-win a fight with another PC. A good example is item creation, which can still happen but the items will be super deformed, the character can only make a few at a time, and the character's energy will be super sapped when they're done. When it comes to power capping, so long as you're not trying to circumvent game mechanics or be like MY CHARACTER IS STRONGER THAN YOURS CUZ OF X THEY WILL AUTO-WIN THIS FIGHT, you're honestly super fine. You can still have powerful ice magic, for instance!

As of IC Day 3, evening, healing powers are among those that are nerfed, but only in such a way so that characters can't escape all consequences. Characters can still heal others, but the magic can only seal up small injuries or reduce the severity of larger ones. They can't be used to regrow limbs or heal someone who has their heart ripped out, for instance! And when wounds are healed, the healing won't be perfect-- characters will still have scars or small marks, depending on player OOC preference.

For characters with auto-regeneration abilities, those will still work! However, the regenerating may take longer ICly than it would have before (i.e. it would take a day or two to heal rather than like, ten minutes). As stated above, wounds won't heal perfectly, either-- there will be scars or small marks left behind, and auto-regeneration can't restore lost limbs or anything like that.

The purpose of nerfing healing a bit is to have some IC consequences for character actions, and prevent characters from being like, WELL IT DOESN'T MATTER IF I LOSE A HEART SOMEONE CAN JUST HEAL ME LATER!! It is not to OOCly police how people play with wounds, I promise. If OOCly your character is injured in a way that's unfun for you to play, I promise you can have that wound healed away or fixed without much OOC fuss to keep things fun for you. OOC fun is the name of the game here, and above all, I want everyone to play with things that they find to be fun. ♥ I hope this clears things up a bit!

Teams

All information on teams can be found here!

Plot

The game has a plot, though it'll be relatively simple in nature and its revelation will depend a lot on player actions. I'm not going to give a schedule for monthly plot things/events/etc, because. . . I don't want to hold myself to a super strict schedule, haha! But if I do post a plot-related thing I promise I'll give the playerbase a heads up so they can prepare.

Game Atmosphere

Some games and weekly posts will encourage PvP, and there will be darker, more ICly stressful things happening from time to time. Characters will die at one point or another, and sometimes this won't be avoidable. However, if you're not super into PvP or the more ICly stressful things, that's okay! I intend to design these things in a way that a player can engage with them as comfort zones allow.

The nature of team games means you definitely can't avoid PvP or stressful things forever, so please bear that in mind. But you should be able to step back and play out cuter, fluffier things in lieu of the PvP if you wish. It's all good!! I want people to be able to play out whatever they want in this setting, be it SUPER INTENSE PvP MURDER or just fluffy, casual CR building. Everything is welcome and encouraged!!

Death outside of games

It is 100% okay for your character to die outside of games! After all, sometimes monsters get a little. . . fussy, right? Should this happen, you no longer have to ping me to report it. Once a character dies, their corpse will vanish into thin air the moment someone looks away from it. If you'd like someone to discover your corpse, make sure the murderer sticks around to keep eyes on it so it won't disappear. The dead character will be out of commission for a few IC hours, during which time they will have vague memories of blue, of irritated voices, and of a blue, glowing butterfly. They will then awaken in the cell block in their team-colored stripes. Their death injury will be sewn together with sutures that will never heal nor go away. If the sutures are opened, the character won't die again, but the death wound may bleed a little bit!! Creepy!!

If this type of body horror is a squick for you, that's okay! Ping me for some other types of death consequences. Generally, I go for physical body horror for death consequences, but we can also work in some psychological/emotional changes if that is more your cup of tea.

Canon Updates

Canon updates now have a proper mechanic! You may canon update at any time; there's no need to ping me when you do so. When a character canon updates, they will suddenly feel extremely, super sleepy. Unable to keep their eyes open, they will fall into a deep sleep, upon which they will hear a mysterious voice say something akin to-- It's time to remember. Canon updating characters will be asleep for however long you want them to be OOCly, be it just a few minutes or a few days or whatever, it's fine!

When they return, they will wake up in the cell block in their team-colored stripes with the new memories of their canon update. It will be unclear to them ICly whether they actually went home to live these events, or whether they just remembered something they had forgotten, or whether these memories were just put into their brain all of a sudden. They may interpret what happened however they wish ICly!

Modly Contact

As stated above, [plurk.com profile] satanyael is the mod of this game! But if you have any mod questions, please email directrice.inbox@gmail.com or use the FAQ page. Don't send me a plurk or DM me on Discord I won't see it. . . cries. . .
