Apping to Echidna
So you want to app to Echidna, huh? As of IC Day 6, that is now an option! But before you jump onto the team belonging to the mother of all monsters, there are some things you should know about the team first!
1) Echidna is the "Warden's helper" team. That is, members of Echidna are "employed" by the Warden to take direct care of all of the other teams and the inmates on them. Their duties are simple: they cook for other inmates, clean the common areas, assist new arrivals, and oversee monthly mingle games. Despite being helpers, members of Echidna are still prisoners themselves. They are not enforcers of the Warden's rules (unless they want to be???) and they are not meant to be antagonistic towards the other inmates (UNLESS THEY WANT TO BE???). Their sole concern is assisting the teams with daily living and making their stay at the Edge of Reverie as comfortable as possible.
2) That said, they are still in a position of semi-authority over other teams, which means ICly they will probably get a bit of heat from different characters. Please make sure you are OOCly okay with this before apping onto the team! And please understand that IC opinions =/= OOC opinions. I say semi-authority because they are not going to be given any actual power over the other inmates, but they're still associated with the Warden, so. IC opinions will vary!
3) There are two ways to be on Echidna: 1) you can swap from your current team to it by using the monthly team swap option, or 2) you can now app directly onto it. For plot reasons, all characters on Echidna must be there by IC choice. This also means characters can swap off of Echidna if they decide they don't want to be in the Warden's employ anymore! In the Warden's benevolence, she won't make anyone work for her if they don't really want to.
4) For characters who app directly onto Echidna, this is how the IC choice works: upon arrival to the Edge of Reverie and before they wake up, they will have a vision of a blue butterfly flashing against a black background. The Warden's voice will echo in their heads and ask: You are being given the option to assist. Will you take it? If they say yes, they will wake up in gray-striped prison garbs with the inherent knowledge of their duties as members of Echidna (that is, cooking, cleaning, assisting in game running, etc etc). If they say no, they will, of course, be placed on one of the normal teams.
6) All members of Echidna are given three outfits. Each outfit is a service industry uniform and can be anything from a bellboy outfit to a waiter outfit to a nurse's outfit. Player's choice! The outfits are shaded a deep blue! A similar blue to the Velvet Room colors, for those familiar with Persona. They only get one of each uniform and will not get another one if it's destroyed, so take care of it!
5) Members of Echidna are encouraged to play in monthly games. However, they can not win these games. This means Echidna loses out on the spoils of victory. At this time, there is no way for Echidna to gain what normal teams gain from winning the monthly tasks. This is the trade-off for being the Warden's helpers. Please take this into consideration before swapping to Echidna, because it's not going to change! There's meant to be serious IC cons for being on this team, and being unable to win games is one of them.
6) Members of Echidna can run games, too! This is the "help Al with running monthly mingle games so she doesn't have to come up with one each month" option LMFAO. If you'd like to run a game with your character, please email the mod account so we can get it scheduled! At this time I am only accepting mingle game ideas, but maybe in the future depending on game pace I'll allow people to run the typical war-room style game. There are many options for how your character would be bullied into running a game, whether they do it ICly and willingly or the Warden gives them the assignment and tells them to do it or their monster possession takes over and runs the game for them. We can hash this out through the mod email! Please note running games is NOT an OOC requirement; you can be on Echidna and not run games at all, I promise.
7) Despite all of the above, members of Echidna have no more access to plot than the other teams do, haha. In fact, normal teams may have an easier access to it due to muttermumblemutter. I made the team for myself to make my RP of Akira easier, and then along the way realized it could be a fun team for other people to add depth to their own play and also give them the opportunity to run games for me!
8) Echidna has a soft cap just like the other teams do. That is, the ideal is eight but we can go up to ten, depending on demand. I will not place more than 10 people on Echidna at once, so if there are ten people on the team and you want to swap/app to it, you may be in for a wait!
