SETTING AND LOCATIONS
THE IN DEPTH SETTING DOC CAN BE FOUND HERE
General
A village setup; the area is surrounded by iron-wrought fencing that is electrified; electric barrier propels those who touch it and magical electric barrier propels those who try to fly over.
As of Day 26, a portion of the fence is now golden. This section of fence is still impassable, but gently nudges people away rather than shocking them.
Beyond the fencing is a mysterious fog with shadowy shapes moving within.
24-hour day/night cycles; days are usually overcast and cloudy; nights are usually clear with a bright blue moon.
As of IC Day 35, the weather has become variable! Rain & sun, snow and fog, it all rolls in completely unpredictably. The climate is is generally temperate, and more often than not the days are still the default mentioned above, but all types of weather may appear at random. Players are welcome to put specific conditions in their posts regardless of time of year -- it might be frigid and snowing in July, but it also might be hot and sunny in January. Maybe one day there's a terrible storm, and the next a thick fog. Who knows?
Cell Blocks
Image one
And endless hallway of cells located in an underground crypt; the place where all characters arrive.
Cemetery
Image one, image two, image three, image four
The central area of the village; has a clocktower right in the middle with numbers from 0 to XIII, hands always pointed to 0. There is a single large crack traveling from the base of the tower to about halfway up. This is also where the suggestion box is now located.
Covered in unruly plant life, scraggly trees, overgrown bushes; plant life may come to life and try to smack/trap/annoy people who walk through the graveyard; now semi-maintained, and there are flowerbeds planted among the graves. The graveyard is also bordered by white fringe-flower (loropetalum) bushes with yellow chrysanthemums.
There are two small vegetable garden plots in a corner of the cemetery, which Wei Wuxian maintains. They are roughly fenced off by police tape-like barriers made of cloth painted with bloody sigils.
There are smaller blood wards on all the identifiable cemetery graves; there is also at least one white iris or white chrysanthemum planted at each headstone with a small added spiritual seal against the dead rising placed into the ground with their roots
Has pathways leading to each building in the village
A dilapidated shed in the back of the graveyard has gardening tools for taming the unruly plant life; there are also bags of seeds there for those who want to plant a garden; planted flowers/vegetables/etc will only take a few IC days to grow and ripen versus many IC weeks
Fenwytch has claimed a tree that's somewhat removed from the paths which lead through the cemetery. Passersby will find its surface roots carpeted by moss, and a pollinator garden is in full bloom in an almost perfect fairy-like circle around this singular tree. It's pretty, cared for, and peaceful.
Motel
Image one, image two
"The Velvet Motel." Has neon sign that says "The Velvet Motel: No Vacancies."
There are many opens rooms outside that have a bed, a closet, a dresser, and a bathroom. They are not locked
The lobby has a front desk, chairs, couches, coffee tables and night stands; it's decorated with paintings of various monsters from myth that seem to shift every day.
The front desk has a bell that you can ring for Echidna service
The suggestion box is here; a sign with the following rules is set in front of it; another sign that says, "Asking for a person won't get you what you wish for" is also attached to the box. The box is no longer in the motel! You can find more info here!
In the lobby there are seven doors labeled with stylistic drawings of each team's patron monster; this leads to the team dormitories; doors can only be unlocked by members of that team by holding their phones up to the electric lock
As of IC Day 41 On the wall near the main doors there is a large corkboard for the posting of notifications, information, or requests. At the bottom of the board is a shelf containing thumbtacks, copy paper, post-it notes, and basic writing utensils such as pencils, ballpoint pens, & sharpies.
Team Dormitories
Doors from motel lobby lead to a stone stairwell lit by torches, which opens up into dorm lobbies
Common room carpeted in team colors with stone walls; has one couch, one arm chair, and one coffee table; walls are decorated with team-specific monsters that also change daily.
Hallway from common room has doors to bedrooms, one for each team member.
Each bedroom has a bed, a closet, a dresser, and a bathroom with a shower/bath combination; bathrooms have basic toiletries stocked for all characters.
SEE COMMENTS BELOW TO SEE DORM-SPECIFIC ALTERATIONS.
Diner
Image one, image two, image three.
"Theo's All-You-Can-Eat Eatery." Simple diner with a milkshake machine and a fully stocked kitchen available for characters to use.
There's a bell to ring for service here, too; There is an additional sign next to the bell that says "Please Review Menu for Self-Service Before Ringing Bell." The diner menu can be found here, set up by Jiang Yanli, who also keeps the fridge and pantry stocked with pre-made meals of all items listed and ingredients for same for anyone who wants to cook for themselves
Jukebox may play music on its own to suit whatever mood matches your character in the moment.
Pool Hall
Image one
"Liz's Pool Hall." A pool hall with many billiards tables and dart boards.
Monster-animal heads decorate the walls, and change daily.
Fully stocked bar available.
There's a bell at the bar.
Clinic
Image one, image two
"Carol and Justy's Meds for Tots." Fully-stocked children's clinic.
Lobby walls are covered with rainbow kid-like drawings and paintings; lobby also has children's toys that are commonly found in doctor's office waiting rooms.
There's a front desk; behind the front desk are three fully-stocked patient care rooms.
There's a sterilized OR that is also fully stocked and has fridges for blood bags; there's also a fridge that says "Fridge for Lost Limbs" that will have any severed or lost limbs from characters in the game; fridge will be empty if no limbs are lost.
Costume Shop/Laundry
Image one, image two
"Margie's Masquerade." Costume shop filled wall-to-wall with various costumes and costume props; any sort of costume imaginable can be found here.
No modern, "normal" clothing can be found for any character, regardless of the time period they hail from.
Has a laundry room in the back with laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, and three washers and three dryers.
Library
Image one, image two, image three, image four
"The Nameless Library." An 80's style library with shelves of books and a common seating area for reading
All books can be found here from all across the multiverse, even books that fourth wall characters; fourth walling should only be done with OOC permission.
There's a computer area with three old computers that only play old pixelated games like Oregon Trail, Pacman, and Donkey Kong; they will play any old game from the 80's - 90's era so choose with your heart.
There are electrical outlets here to charge electronics.
Lan Wangji has organized a small books-about-tarot section in a dismal corner of the library; it is not labeled, but characters are free to stumble upon this and find literally any information about any tarot deck in the world here
The front desk has two notebooks on it: one for writing down checked-out books and one for signing up as a library volunteer. There is a loose IC schedule, which is OOCly handwaved for player convenience.
A side room has been cleared out and has a paper sign stuck on the door that reads RESTRICTED MATERIALS. There's nothing in it.
On IC Day 12, Elliot Nightray has created certain rules for the library that are now displayed on an unremovable plaque on the front door. They state the following:
LIBRARY RULES
- Do not damage the books.
- If you take something, bring it back.
- Be quiet!
- If you fight or have sex on the premises you forfeit your life.
Anyone who breaks these rules will find themselves suddenly and inexplicably turned into a small, cute creature based on their monster. A tiny ghost for a ghost, or a tiny fox for a kitsune, or a tiny squid for an octopus. The transformation will last however long you want it to last OOCly, but no longer than one IC hour.
As of IC Day 24, there is there is a flag with this crest on the flagpole.
Hot Springs
Image one, image two
A simple set of open-air hot springs; there are no partition walls, and the springs are not separated by gender. No matter what the weather is like in other areas of the village, the hot springs area is always covered in snow.
A wooden lodge nearby is stocked with bottles of water, towels, and other hot springs items.
Gym/Training Ground
Image one, image two, image three, image four
"Strong Start Family Wellness Center"
A community health center equipped for all sorts of physical training. Includes any kind of gym equipment you need, a generic sports court, and several open training rooms with wall mirrors, all sorts of practice weapons, safety gear, target dummies, and benches for resting or spectating.
The dressing room area includes showers, a sauna, and a hot tub for soaking.
The entrance area has a fridge stocked with bottled smoothies, protein bars, etc.
As of Day 29, Imre has laid down wards in one of the practice rooms in the training ground. The wards are visible as lines of script interspersed with diagrams carved into the floor all along the edges of the walls; they dampen magic so that it can be used to spar or experiment without risk of serious injury or damage to the room without suppressing it entirely, making it basically a practice room for mages.
Beach
Image one, Image two, Image three
A beach with enough room for everyone to hang out, framed by rocks and tropical greenery, with soft, pure sand, as well as a beach volleyball net and a small pier with a few simple boats "for rent" (with what money?) There's crystal clear shallows, and further out the waves are always perfect for surfing. You can get about 300 meters into the sea before you find the fence. The weather is the same as the rest of reverie, though...
By the entrance to the beach is "Sunny Days Surf & Sport", a ramshackle shop for all your beach needs. The front of the store has all the sporting goods and beach toys you require, and the back has an area with changing rooms and showers that opens to the beach.
The surf shop also has swimwear, but only novelty patterns. On the tame end are things like this, this or this, but most of it is more like (cw cursed and slightly nsfw images) this this, or this. Your only "normal" option is early 1900s bathing suits in your team colours.
On the beach is a tiny, unnamed tiki bar. It has supplies for tropical cocktails only, as well as and pineapple, mango, & banana softserve. Any drink made here will spawn a little paper umbrella the instant you blink.
As of IC Day 41, the ocean is now full of living fish, however their forms are somewhat… intimidating. Monster fish with spines and barbs, strange mutations and odd glowing bits abound, but despite their appearances they are all completely harmless and docile. You'll have to remove all the strange bits and bobs to get to the edible parts of the fish, but once you do they're universally delicious. Basic fishing gear can be found in the surf shop.
Workshop
Image one, Image two
A nameless workshop with all the tools necessary for your wood and metalworking needs: hammers, saws (electric and manual), screwdrivers, wrenches, benches, etc etc. . . if it's a tool of some kind, it's there!
Materials, however, aren't available. You'll have to ask the suggestion box or scavenge them from elsewhere.
Tailor's Shop
Image one, Image two, Image three
"Perry & Sons Custom Tailoring and Alterations"
A tailor shop equipped with the means to make any kind of clothing you desire. It has professional sewing machines, as well as a seemingly infinite selection of fabrics, trim, and other materials. There are patterns in stock as well for those who aren't up to drafting their own.
There are also the tools to make shoes and accessories, so go fashion wild! You could create protective gear with leather, but there's not a forge so anything like plate armor is a no-go. Do your best with the tools at the workshop!
Arcade
Image one, Image two
"Pixel Pop"
A retro video arcade complete with terrible carpet, neon lights, and a plethora of 80s & 90s arcade cabinets. There are no modern games, but you can play Pac-Man to your heart's desire!
For some reason, the Tetris machine seems to have been replaced with a very odd knock-off. The title reads "Tetanus" and all the blocks are actually weirdly-shaped microbes... Who could be responsible for that one?
There are a few couches scattered about the room for spectating purposes as well as vending machines that cost nothing but only distribute lukewarm offbrand sodas.
Courthouse
Image one, Image two, Image three
A nameless courthouse, though it does happen to have the number XXI on the front, above the entrance.
When you step inside, there is a small, but fancy, lobby with a desk to check in at, even though there is no receptionist. There are books and paper and pens, and a clipboard for signing in. The paper on the clipboard seems to mysteriously refresh for every new trial.
If you need to dress the part, well. Look in the nearby storage closet.
There are two antechambers on either side—one for each "side" to confer in, either before or after a trial, or during intermissions. There are windows in these rooms!
The courtroom in the center of the building has several rows of benches for spectators, tables, a jury bench, a bailiff's station, as well as a stand for the judge and witnesses. There is also an Echidna bell next to the judge's gavel.
Anything you'd need to present evidence can be found here—a whiteboard, a projector (for your power points!), plenty of things for note taking and drawing, a pair of scales, those sorts of things.
There is a small room for the judge to meet privately with a couple of people, and it is located through a door behind the stand. It has a little desk and some shelves, with a comfy looking office chair.
Skyscraper Mall
Image one, Image two, Image three, Image four, Image five, Image six
Now officially the tallest building in Reverie.
There are lights on each of the four corners along the building that come on automatically at night, giving off an eerie blue glow, similar to the moon.
The building itself is styled like older architecture, though it seems to be newly made and maybe not even perfectly finished yet.
Every outcropping corner of the building, all along the length of the building, is fashioned with a gargoyle—each one different, and... sometimes, it seems as though they change? Is that one staring at you? One might look like a goat one day and a dragon the next. The important part is they're big enough to crouch on.
There are many empty floors, some that seem like they were left unfinished (though structurally sound), but there are also some that were finished.
Namely:
There's a lobby at the bottom. It's just a simple lobby with some potted fake plants. You can go up the floors either via escalator or by stairs–there's an elevator shaft but it has CAUTION yellow tape all over it.
A food court several floors above that offers tables and chairs and a variety of fast food types to sample. If you approach a counter and name something off the menu, there will be a DING! And your order will slide out from a window to sit on the "Mobile Order Pick Up" counter. If you try to figure out where the food came from, by looking through the window, you'll just be looking outside at the rest of the village.
A small museum filled with various unrecognizable paintings, artifacts, monster bones that were excavated by the museum's archeology department, and a little gift shop where you can buy I VISITED THE MUSEUM AT THE EDGE OF REVERIE AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS STUPID T-SHIRT t-shirts and small plushies of your monsters. It seems like the currency for the shop is gained by oohing and aahing at their exhibits, which gives you little tickets. (There's no set ticket price for anything go have fun).
A simple movie theater that is always playing some kind of fake knock-off horror movie. They're terrible. Awful special effects, awful plot, awful acting. But hey, they could be fun to watch and make fun of??
An auditorium for all of the lectures you all need (or more power points). There's a couple rows of seating, great acoustics, and a spotlight on the stage that never shuts off.
A real clothing store! Finally! However, it only provides outfits from the 50's. So no modern wear, only cute A-line dresses, stovepipe trousers, argyle vests, and babby suits with narrow ties for you.
An obstacle course is set up on one especially tall floor, complete with poles (for… reasons…), gymnastics equipment, ropes for climbing, a rock wall, a laned swimming pool for racing, etc.
An indoor garden atrium with a fountain; there are a couple of simple trees, shrubs, a plentiful array of different flowers, and many windows. During the day, it's very bright here! There are a few benches for sitting and discussing finer topics.
A lounge on the highest point indoors that comes with a tiny little bar for drinks and snacks, for everyone who wishes to look out at Reverie from above but cannot fly or spider climb walls.
Also, you can access the roof by climbing up more stairs from the lounge, there's a tiny observation deck. There's a fence that will keep most people safe but… be careful! Don't fall to your death or whatever.
