HELLO I AM ONE OF THE TWO PEOPLE KAZ MENTIONED THINKING OF APPING FROM DREAM SMP

so the reason why kaz brought up "it's variable" whether people are playing themselves or characters are because

1. it didn't start OUT as a roleplay server, and then gradually BECAME a roleplay server and once it became a roleplay server the people who decided to roleplay went very very hard on it

2. there's some people who are still on the server that just don't roleplay/aren't involved in the actual plot at all

and 3. the roleplayers use their actual names for their characters, so it gets kind of bleed-ey there... but that's because the server didn't start as an rp server and it would just be weird to break pattern i think

THAT BEING SAID IT HAS... A MASSIVE FANDOM, hundreds of fanworks, actual merch and official songs and by now the DSMP follows a legitimate scripted plot so it has definitely Become a work of fiction.

Tristan and I made a google slide presentation for the purpose of pulling katy into our new hell which explains a couple more things, and also explains like... all the actual characters.

This is a video series that attempts to explain the entire plot up til the most recent arc but... it's Long and it doesn't explain EVERYTHING.

and this is just a video that showcases the absolute insanity of this fandom and how seriously this plot is taken

anyways, now that i've presented my case for DSMP being a legitimate canon, I want to mention that tristan and i plan on apping two characters (wilbur and technoblade) as an AU where they're actually twins, which is a popular AU in the fandom. So it's ... even more removed in that way I guess?

OOOOOH OKAY I UNDERSTAND NOW!! Kaz tried to explain but all I got initially was "real people rping as themselves but in MINECRAFT" and I was like wh. what. BUT THAT PART IS ON ME FOR NOT GETTING IT thank u Kaz for trying your best cries.

But okay, with all this in mind, then yeah, I think it is an appable canon after all! It reminds me more of Critical Role/Adventure Zone, as Tristan mentioned, so like as long as they are definitely characters from a fictional universe with a canon story, then it's totally fine! THANK U FOR ENLIGHTENING ME

THANK YOOOOOOU and yeah it's definitely a very [squints] canon, idt we'd try to app them anywhere where we're not surrounded by friends just cause it's the kind of thing that is easily misunderstood if you're not deep into it. it is def a lot like CR/TAZ in that it's half and half roleplay/fucking around, but everyone who participates in the lore is there to tell a story. I'd also compare it to early RvB honestly, just in terms of like... being very laidback semi-scripted storytelling using videogames as a medium.

So as I mentioned earlier I plan on apping Technoblade, and the thing about Techno is it is... very much a Thing that he breaks the 4th wall all the time. Like that's just so common that it's practically his gimmick, he does it even in lore vids. And the canonical explanation for this is that he's basically insane and has "voices in his head".

SOME EXAMPLES/EXPLANATIONS;

- the voices in his head (his livestream chat...) tell him to kill things
- he frequently tells people to subscribe to technoblade
- every half an hour he has to ring THE SELLOUT BELL... and tell people to subscribe to technoblade
- ... and various other smaller things but these are the main things i can think of

IDEALLY i would like to be able to do these things for comedy reasons/just play it as him being totally insane as he talks about shit that literally no one else understands like "youtube subscribers" but if this is a Bit Much i can cut down on the streamer language



i also would like to know how much minecraft mechanics we can carry over to the prison i wanna punch trees

You can keep the fourth-walling b/c I think it's hILARIOUS, so long as you don't fourth wall actual character canons (like, I KNOW BATMAN FROM POPULAR COMICS BACK HOME fourth walling) without permission! But that part I think goes without saying.

Also I. . . know nothing about Minecraft WHAT KIND OF MECHANICS ARE YOU ASKING FOR, sweats a lot.

OKAY SO MECHANICS-WISE I think Moelle and I are trying to determine if we're going to have them in survival mode or adventure mode.

Survival is what the SMP is canonically. While in survival mode, they're able to do things like break blocks/materials by hitting them, provided the block is not one that requires silk touch. How tough the material is will change how long it takes them to break it. Upon breaking it they now have and can either produce it from nothing, or can craft new items from it depending upon what the item is. For instance, wood can be turned into planks which can be turned into sticks or a crafting table to craft a larger variety of items with, or they can break wood, and then use the wood they broke to build a house or a pillar with. They can also combine different items to make new, different items.

So like, with Wilbur, he might be requesting a stack of sand as an item which because he's a minecraft character, if he gets his hands on gunpowder he can use it to make TNT, or he can heat it in a furnace to get glass, or he can just build himself up a tower and stand on the tower of sand he created.

Adventure mode is a mode that is more limited, in which it's designed for dungeon runs or like escape room things. They cannot break blocks unless they have the correct tools for it, so unless they have an axe they cannot just break through a wooden wall through being willing to spend a while punching it. Adventure mode also limits what they can create iirc like we need a crafting table for making new items idk I don't play in adventure mode ever.

So in this case, Wilbur could not just eventually break iron bars by being willing to dedicate time to punching them, and then have iron bars in his inventory that he could produce to make a cage around someone later. He'd have to have a tool that would reasonably break iron bars.

Okay! Got it. In this case, since there's an item-and-setting gain system in the game (i.e. the suggestion box), and item-and-setting gains are limited, their abilities will unfortunately be nerfed into adventure mode for their stay in Reverie. So they can definitely make wooden planks/iron bars/etc by using the setting's resources, BUT they will need the tools to make them instead of just being able to punch things and BAM, IRON BARS. Does that make sense?
